I have been an advocate for women in motorsports for as long as I can remember. I guess I did not know it then. My very first race was the NASCAR race in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1978 and Janet Guthrie was in that race. That was my first exposure to women in motorsports. Of course I followed drivers like Patty Moise, Shawna Robinson and Danica Patrick. Then, in 2010, my interest was kicked into high gear by Johanna Long when she won the prestigious Snowball Derby. I belonged to a Facebook Group that supported Johanna. When Johanna “retired” from racing the group was transformed into the “Women in Motorsports: Making Waves” group – and I became a full blown advocate for women in motorsports – whether they were drivers, mechanics, publicists, engineers, etc. Since then I became involved in the racing career of a young lady, Kercie Jung, and have been working with her to help her advance in her career. I also started “In The Zone Motorsports Marketing” as a way to help women learn motorsports marketing. I am also a co-host on the “Heels on Wheels” radio program dedicated to women in motorsports. Now this, my blog, is another way for me to advocate for, educate and share my thoughts on the latest issues facing women.
